Women1. Amangul Durdyeva 16, 2. Jan Mortimer 10, 3. Kim Willis 7, 4. Alena Sorokina 6, 5. Matrie Riedelbauchova 1, Kim won a piece in the opening and with precise technique gained third place in the last round, after Alena drew her with white in fine style.
Amangul kept her clear score defeating Riedelbauchova 4-0 , but the Czech ladies will definitely be contenders for high places in the qualifiers if their knowledge and practice in the English style increases.

Bashim won both against the uncompromising Filip and took second place.
Shane, who had to depart early, drew both with Jiri, giving him the first points and hereby getting a bronze medal for Ireland.
All young players are good talents, and especially Lukacz might be already the man to beat if he begins to play regularly in British events.
The Men played a 10 round Swiss style tournament while the Ladies and Youth played a Round Robin.

After Jim crushed the tired Michael 4-0 and defeated Allicock 3-1 he almost secured first place on Thursday, because his closest Rival Baghtiyar Durdev, who defeated Rawle 4-0 and won in fine style against his elder brother Mustafa in their first game, lost their second game on a terrible blunder. But this young ambitious, talented and well/prepared player will definitely be a winner in the future qualifiers!
Jim secured first place by drawing me twice in cross-games , and Rich Bechwith showed great sportsmanship by refusing to win on forfeit against Tommy Canning who had to depart to Ireland on Friday morning, and thus losing second place, for Tommy drew him in fine style in both games late in the night at the hotel.
Rawle crushed Dennis 4-0 and finished best European player, destroying our German hopes of breaking the British dominance right now.

All players will definitely bear this extraordinary tournament in their memory. and I hope that the CUD will stage future WCDF Qualifiers to give the central European and Asian players a chance to challenge the Anglo-American dominance in the game of draughts/Checkers

On my part I would like to say many, many thanks to Igor Keder and all other organizers. I know - it's not an easy thing - to run such level event on high quality ! Great job, guys.

It is an unfortunate fact, that Igor had to play two roles - organizer and tournament participant. This definitely had influence on his play, no questions.

It is amazing to see both Durdyev family members secured 2nd and 3rd place, which beat all expectations !

As I said - I wish Kim good luck in his 3rd attempt for the World Title. I am sure - we'll have an interesting match next year.

"Rich Bechwith showed great sportsmanship" I know Richard long time and can prove - for him it's a normal way to handle things. I would be much more surprise, If he act differently.

I just arrived back home and I guess I can speak for everybody that we all enjoyed to meet each other. Everybody is a character. I had a hard time in Prague between sight seeing with some of the players and the very hard pairings I had in this tournament. (Facing 5 of the top 6 players)
Facing such top players is a great deal as I now know what to work on and can correct errors as some of the games were on a good level. As usual a Swiss system with such a low number of participants is always unfair for some players but if you can learn of your games and play such high caliber players your the real winner. Jim did tell us that he will give his best to beat Ron. He did show a very solid performance in this tournament which is in my opinion very important against Suki. Many thanks to Igor who did organize this event very good. Some of the people didn't like the system and did question it as Europe and the USA play different systems in there National Events. There is a lot of work coming up for the new WCDF President and his team to define rules more exactly and to create standards for important WCDF events.
